Election Results

Americans across the country can now enjoy a short respite from the seemingly endless political ads, texts, and phone calls that have inundated the country for months. After the November 5th election, Donald Trump was decisively declared the winner and is reported to have won all seven swing states.

Though liberals throughout the country are reeling from these results, it is not the same feeling as the 2016 election. In the election that saw Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton facing off for the presidential race, Trump won the presidency with more electoral votes while Clinton lost despite winning the popular vote. This election saw Trump win both the electoral and popular vote, resulting in a landslide victory.

The 2016 election was a harsh one for over half the country, as many spoke out about Clinton being more deserving of the presidency after winning the majority of votes. This year, the loss cannot feasibly be contested in the same manner. Kamala Harris's loss is certainly a shock to many, but those who voted for the Democratic candidate can at least enjoy the knowledge that the ultimate winner of the presidential race was who the majority of the country desired.

Losing an election is a harsh experience, but Harris has handled this loss with grace. The American people have spoken, and Trump is here for four more years.

  1. As you stated, Harris handled the loss better than most would. I find it refreshing to see the losing candidate showing humility and grace, instead of, you know, creating an insurrection at the capitol. Many Americans are worried about their future given the political and economic climate we are in, but focusing on our community and day-to-day life seems to make it feel better.

  2. I think genuinely the rushed state of Harris's campaign is what ended up hurting her in this election. As you mentioned many people had talked about Clinton and her attempt for the presidency. I feel as though that one was tougher because like you mentioned Clinton won the popular vote whereas Harris didn't. I feel as though people saw Clinton go through the primaries and win her way to the nomination for the Democratic party while Harris was put on the spot almost last minute. I feel as though she wasn't given enough time to run a proper campaign and garner the support that she needed.
