Catholics for Palestine?

The war in Gaza continues to rage on, passing the 1 year and 1 month mark without any indication of slowing down. Israel has continued to rain fire on Gaza, killing over 40 people, 11 of whom were in an Israeli-declared humanitarian zone last Tuesday, November 12. Despite this onslaught of missiles, people are continuing to speak out.

Pope Francis recently spoke out, urging an investigation into Israel's actions in Palestine and whether this war constitutes as a genocide. This is not the first time the Pope has spoken about the Israel-Palestine war. In September, he described Israel's actions as disproportionate and immoral. As Gazans live in fear of more missile attacks or starvation, it is important to let the world know that these people are not forgotten and that attempts are being made to hold all accountable.

This message from Pope Francis comes after Donald Trump nominated self-proclaimed Zionist Mike Huckabee as ambassador to Israel. Huckabee is strongly opposed to a two-state solution and does not believe Palestinians to be a proper term or persons. As Huckabee also speaks out against Hamas' October 7th attack on Israel while being notably quiet on Israel's response, it is safe to assume that the incoming administration will not agree with Pope Francis' statement, making it all the more important for those in power to speak out about the humanitarian crisis.

  1. This was such an absolutely fascinating and eye-opening blog to read. It is astounding that this war has now surpassed a year and that there is no end in sight for the fighting and violence. It is such a heated war that so many people are extremely passionate no matter the side. It was interesting learn that Pope Francis has spoken about the unimaginable violence currently taking place within Israel and the Gaza strip. Thank you so much for sharing about it!
