Early voting has arrived
Early voting is finally here! In an election that has been seemingly endless, very adversarial, and filled with numerous unforeseen plot twists, Americans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the 2024 battle for president is almost over.
In Georgia, 1 in 3 registered voters have already cast their ballot as of October 26th. It is heartening to see an active voting public which is prepared to take action to make their voices heard. After the 2020 election, which saw an abundance of controversy and claims that the election was "stolen" and ballots were falsified, it would have been understandable if Georgia voters were hesitant towards this year's election. Instead, Georgians are braced for impact and turning out to vote in droves.
Though there has been a need for an increased police presence at polling locations, Georgians and the rest of America can see the light at the end of the 2024 election tunnel. Though there is little belief that there will be another event like the January 6th insurrection, organizations believe that there is concern for violence at local levels. Fortunately, ample training has been given to those at risk and/or involved in the election on de-escalation of violence. Additionally, with such high numbers of early voters, there may be little, if any, conflict seen on November 5th. All can look towards November with the hope that however this election goes, it will be a peaceful experience and move towards the future.
you are absolutely right about the increase in early voting for this years presidential election especially in georgia. I think many people are thinking ahead and are worried about their vote potentially being lost or tampered with if they were to vote on election day which drives them to vote before. Sadly recently it seems that people's fears have become justified. This pass week two ballot boxes have been set on fire in states where mail-in-voting is the primary form.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved getting to read this blog and think it gave your audience the perfect amount of information needed to understand where people, especially in Georgia, stand when it comes to early voting for the Presidential election. I personally have gone ahead and early voted myself and feel relieved to know that I have checked it off the list. I, along with seemingly everyone else, am waiting excitedly and nervously to see the outcome of the election. The fact that so many people are showing up and using their power to vote speaks volumes about how serious everyone is taking this. Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it’s been heartening to see how many people have prioritized getting their vote in this year. As you mentioned, due to the controversies surrounding the last election, it would have been understandable if people were hesitant to vote. Fortunately, it almost seems like the last election had the opposite effect and people are more motivated than ever to vote. I think that it’s very smart to have increased security measures at polling locations although I’m obviously hopeful that no violence will take place. I personally had to vote by mail this year as I’ve been traveling and I was concerned when I heard about people burning ballot boxes. Fortunately, it looks like my ballot has been received and accepted but I think it’s horrible that so many ballots have been destroyed or damaged.
ReplyDeleteThis post does an amazing job at describing the background information involved with Georgia in the 2020 election, and why voters might be hesitant to be involved with voting this election term. As shown through 1 in 3 registered voters cast their ballots was very good to see, and this showed to beat the common idea of lack of voters.
