The Pervasive Negativity in Mass Media
If you stay up to date with current events or scroll on social media or even watch a YouTube video with an ad or two, you have likely experienced the gut-wrenching feeling that our world is coming to an end. You are not alone in this. According to Reuter's 2024 Digital News Report, the general public has seen in increase in distrust of the news and have further questions regarding the news' accuracy (Newman, 2024). Furthermore, today's media outlets often focus more on alerting the public to top news stories and largely ignore any reason for hope or optimism (Newman, 2024). This is where Silver Linings Politics comes in.
It is certainly no easy feat to remain informed without sacrificing confidence in the future of our global or local community. Silver Linings Politics aims to keep the reader informed without overloading the senses with "what-ifs" or "what else could go wrong?" perspectives. In an increasingly interconnected world, there has been subsequent increase in necessity to remain on top of current events everywhere, no matter how far. This does not require an abundance of pessimism as a side effect, despite how major news outlets present stories.
Here on Silver Linings Politics, we will discuss and analyze top stories from the week and seek out a reason or two for optimism, no matter how difficult the task may seem. Join me as we combat doom-scrolling with a positive outlook.
